EUROPEAN TRIALS AND AGE GROUP TRIALS 4& 5 JUNE 2005 LILLESHALL NATIONAL TRAINING CENTRE - 5 PAGES OF PHOTOS AND RESULTS!
Dynamic, Exciting, Daring and amazingly talented - just some of the words used to describe the Sports Acrobats at the European Championships Trials at Lilleshall this weekend! I travelled 500 miles in 2 days to cover both trials and would not have missed this fantastic competition where trials took place for TWO premier competitions - the European Sports Acrobatics Championships and the European Age Group Championships 2005! Gymnasts from top British Clubs Spelthorne, Wakefield, Deerness Valley, King Edmund and Bromley Valley plus other top Clubs from around the U.K. were battling for selection to the British Team for European’s and what an amazing contest!
On Saturday our premier Juniors and Seniors took part in the first of two competitions for selection for the opportunity to represent Great Britain in the European Championships in Thessaloinki, Greeve from 10-16 October! In the Men’s Four competition Barry Hindson, Scott Patterson, Stuart McKenzie and David Scott from Deerness Valley who are currently ranked number 1 in the World in the F.I.G. Rankings were against Bromley Valley’s Adam Denny, Adam Smith, Adam Dobbs and Andy Price. Everyone in the arena stood hushed and held their breath as the men produced incredible balances and world class routines. Deerness took an early lead but Bromley Valley triumphed in the Dynamic and Combined routines to win by 82.490 to 82.323!
The trials included British Champions, European and World Championship’s medallists who produced stunning routines with great choreography and immaculate timing to produce double somersaults and twists from balances with poise, panache and great skill in a fantastic contest. In the Women’s Pairs, Candice Slater and Samantha Rocket from Wakefield won by 2.266 marks, and Mixed Pairs British Champions Christian Beecher and Katie Axton from Spelthorne scored an amazing 87.267 with Wakefield taking second and third positions. A memorable competition with great performances now sets the scene for the second trial at Lilleshall on 3rd Septembers! I can’t wait for this one! On Sunday trials for the European Age Group Games for 11-16 years old took place in a terrific one day selection event for this year’s European Age Group Games in Thessaloniki from 10th to 11th October. This was a nail biting event, where brilliant performances, nerves and excitement all combined to produce an electric atmosphere. This brought together the best sports acrobats from around the U.K. and demonstrated the strength of top class Sports Acrobatics in this country. Despite the importance of the trials it was great to see so many gymnasts congratulating their rivals and applauding difficult combinations and routines. To illustrate the very high standard, the Women’s Group from Deerness Valley included Hannah Browning who was second in the Junior World Championships in 2001, Leigh Simpson who came fifth in the Senior World Championships in 2004, and Beth Young who put in a great performance in her first combination! It was also good to see Oxford at European Trials, only 2 years after the Club was formed, and a great tribute to the gymnasts and coaches. Click here for results and 2 pages of great photos from the European Age Group Trials! Congratulations to all of the competitors and Coaches on your amazing performances. It was worth every single mile on the motorways to watch and photograph these incredibly dedicated and talented performers and witness the best of British Sports Acrobatics! Good luck in Europeans, every single competitor can feel very proud of their performance.
