Page 12 - THE FINALS CONTINUE WITH THRILLING ACROBATICS AS THE MEDALS ARE DECIDED!
Stunning choreography and execution from some of Britain’s leading Acrobats thrilled the audience as the Bristol International witnessed excellent performances from our Junior and Senior Finalists.
Many of Britain’s leading Clubs were proudly represented by familiar and new faces and change is inevitable as tops mature or gymnasts retire. With many high profile retirements after last year’s World Championships, already we saw some great new partnerships who show great potential. However the Wakefield appearance on TV highlighted the fact that funding remains a major issue for Clubs following the withdrawl of World Class funding. Many gymnasts, Coaches and parents approached me and spoke of the need for more money to be invested in the Sport and for funding to be restored to support the great efforts of the Coaches and Volunteers who are vital to our continued success. Many also spoke of their hopes that Acrobatics would one day be recognised as an Olympic Sport and therefore attract significant additional funding.
The Bristol International Finals was a perfect example of the superb organisation and the large numbers of King Edmund volunteers required to run an International Event, with Mark Thorne’s Team covering an incredible 2,100 miles in People Carriers in 4 days transporting gymnasts etc. The Event ran without a hitch and the standard of gymnastics was superb with many of the International Coaches praising the Event and quality of the Acrobats.
