Page 4 - Oxford and Harefield Claim Podium Places with great performances !
One of the most exciting developments in British Acrobatics in 2006 was the emergence of both new and established Clubs at National and International level challenging the established giants, with new talent emerging at all levels. This is vital to the future growth and development of the Sport which saw so much success resulting in over 20 Medals for Great Britain at European and World Championsips last year. The spread of new talent and skills from the Gymnasts plus the increased success of both new and established Clubs is so important to this continued growth as the dynamics of the sport change, and this was highlighted once more in Bristol.
Two of the most promising Clubs have been Harrow ( now Harefield ) and Oxford who saw their gymnasts gain International selection in 2006 and this year looks to be just as exciting. Joanne White, Amber Ballantyne-Styles and Rosie Burr won Gold at the British Tournament with the highest score of the competition with 28.900 for their graceful Balance routine. They were also selected to represent Great Britain at the European Age Groups Championships in Poland. And at the Bristol International, the girls performed with great style in the 11-16 Womens Groups where they scored 28.5833 in their Balance, while Oxford team mates Catherine Aitchison, Rosie Green and Ellie Newitt scored 28.0333. The new Spelthorne trio of Leanne Fowler, Lauren Kemp and Hollianne Woods were in 2nd place in a great contest of high quality Acrobatics from all of the competitors.
And the Junior Pairs saw terrific performances from Harefield’s Kelly Mannion and Deborah Owen who won Gold at the Tournament ahead of the USA’s Mallory Henthon and Savanah Shields, demonstrated their beautiful technique scoring 27.7333 in their Dynamic in a competition featuring Acrobats from France, Germany, Poland and Great Britain!
