16 MAY - SAMANTHA PALMER WIN’S WORLD CUP GOLD AGAINST RUSSIAN WORLD TUMBLING CHAMPION!
WORLD CUP TUMBLING – KRASNADOUR RUSSIA MAY 6th & 7th 2006
A major upset took place in the Women’s Tumbling Final as the current World Tumbling Champion Anna Korobeynikova from Russia was defeated by Great Britain’s Samantha Palmer. Anna had qualified for the Final with a 3.50 point margin but the 18 year old British Senior Champion from Lynx produced a sensational performance to score 67.90, just 0.20 ahead of Anna and produce the first World Cup Tumbling Gold Medal for Sam who was a bronze medalist at the last World Championship’s. The win was even more impressive as Sam had suffered from a chest infection earlier in the week and had to go to the doctor’s.
Another excellent performance from Great Britain’s Samantha Palmer winning Gold
GHENT WORLD CUP, ANNA AND WANG JIEXU IN STUNNING FORM AS THEY WIN GOLD, BUT GB’S ZOE MCLEAN WIN’S SILVER
In the Ghent World Cup Tumbling Final’s held on 29th April Anna was simply in a class of her own winning the Gold Medal by an incredible margin of over 5 point’s with a total of 69.00. Her first pass was round off, whip, double straight transition, whip, whip, whip, flick, full in full out with a small step backward’s on landing. Showing great speed and control, her 2nd run was round off, flick, full in back in the straight position, whip, whip, whip, whip, flick, full in back in the piked position with excellent technique and execution.
Zoe McLean from Great Britain won the Silver Medal after a well executed first run with a double straight transition into a full in back pike. Her 2nd pass was powerful and fast, concluding with a full in back for a total of 63.90 points Sam also performed a double back lay into a full in back pike in her first pass to move into 2nd place. But unfortunately Sam lost her speed in the middle of her 2nd pass and ended with a simple back somersault. Emily Smith from Canada took the bronze after both Emily and Sam scored 62.60, but Emily’s higher technical values pushed Sam into 4th place.
Great Britain’s Charlie Burrows and Mike also qualified for Final’s but Damian Waters put his knee down on his triple back and just missed out on qualifying for Final’s. The Final’s were won by the current World Men’s Tumbling Champion Wang Jiexu from China with an incredible 77.60, which included a first pass which equalled the World record for difficulty with a tarrif of 13.60! Poland’s Wadecki Jozef won the Silver Medal, as Charlie finished in 5th place in an outstanding field.
