“ THE BEST TEAM FINAL OF THE HISTORY OF THE SPORT!”

That is how Horst Kunze the President of the FIG Trampoline TC described the World Trampoline Team Finals in Eindhoven tonight! In an amazing competition, two of the Chinese team performed four triple somersaults in a row with fantastic precision and lines and China were crowned as the new World Trampoline Team Champions. Germany who were World Champions in 2003, and Ukraine who won bronze did not make the Finals just 2 years later!

China and Japan were outstanding and 5 of their 6 performers hit scores of over 40 points with Japan’s Tetsuya Sotomura producing a 41.20. Credit must also go to the Russian Team who were Silver medallists in 2003, but had to settle for bronze in Eindhoven. They battled all the way to make an enthralling competition which had the crowd cheering enthusiastically in appreciation of the skills including a full triple twisting somi from China’s Ye Shuai!

Special mention also the the fantastic achievements from the British Men’s Team who had made history by qualifying for the World Finals for the first time. Well done to John Beer and the GB Team who performed superbly to achieve a 4th place at World’s in such a high standard of competition. WORLD TRAMPOLINE CHAMPIONSHIPS EINDHOVEN 2005

GB MEN QUALIFY FOR WORLD FINALS FOR FIRST TIME!

A fantastic performance from the British Men’s Trampoline team saw them qualify for the World Championships Final for the first time today in a day which was full of surprises! The British Team of Mark Alexander, Simon Milnes, Gary Short and Gary Smith held their nerve as top teams from the 2003 World Championships watched their hopes of medals in the Team Event fade. The 2003 World Champions crashed to 12th place with Ukraine who won bronze in the last Championships fell to 9th position. France will also be disappointed with their performances as they finished outside the qualifying places in 8th position, only 2 years after placing 4th at World’s. The major shock was the 2004 Olympic Champion Yuri Nikitin from Ukraine who pulled up during his routine to finish 78th!

For the GB Men, it was a fantastic performance as they swept to 4th place to qualify for Finals with Japan, China and Russia and Portugal. Japan were unstoppable as 3 of their team scored 40.40 or more in the second round to win by almost 3 points. John Beer the GB National Coach said “ I am absolutely thrilled by the incredible success of our men. They have reached European Finals but never the Finals of the World Championships.”

Congratulations to Mark Alexander, Simon Milnes, Gary Short and Gary Smith and of course John Beer on making trampoline history for GB, and good luck in the Finals which will be shown live on Eurosport International!  Full scores for Men’s Team and Individual events are shown below!
