BRITISH SPORTS ACROBATICS NDP CHAMPIONSHIPS 2005
FENTON MANOR 21-22 MAY - DEERNESS VALLEY WIN 4 BRITISH TITLES
One of the highlights of the Sports Acrobatics calendar took place at Fenton Manor this weekend as an incredible 655 gymnasts from over 100 Clubs took part in the NDP Championships 2005. The competition began earlier this year when preliminary events took place in 13 Regions around the U.K. and the Champions from each Region qualified for this weekend’s British Championships. Every single competitor can feel very proud at reaching this level as they are already Champions and for many of them this was their first experience at British level. It was especially good to see 3 Disability Gymnastics Clubs competing in the British Championships making Sports Acrobatics the first gymnastics discipline to incorporate this at British Championship level! The gymnasts did themselves proud and although nerves played a part, it was an experience many will never forget. An amazing 47 Clubs won medals at the British Championships highlighting the success of Sports Acrobatics development programs around the U.K. Congratulations to all of the gymnasts and Coaches on your achievements.
This was the last of the present cycle of the current Development Plan, as next year we move to a new program with differant challenges as the skill and ability requirements change. A special mention must go to Sandra Sargeant, Andy Farley and the entire Organising Team and Judges who worked tirelessly to ensure the competition ran smoothly, 655 gymnasts in one weekend is an amazing achievement
Deerness Valley had a fantastic Championships winning a total of 10 Medals including 4 British Titles, 2 Silver Medals and 4 Bronze adding to their fantastic success in major competitions. Bromley Valley also won 3 British Titles, winning a total of 5 Medals, with West Kirby also winning 2 British NDP Titles in their total of 5 medals. Click here to see the full medal table.
Wigan Seagulls, led by Head Coach Pete Daulby, completed a memorable Championships with one of the highlights being the Intermediate 4 Mixed Pairs Jonathan Finch and Rosie Cowell winning their 4th successive British Championships! The pair won the Intermediate Level One Mixed Pairs Title in 2002, the Level Two title in 2003, and Level Three last year, making them undefeated for the last 4 years. They told me after their success that they had not expected to win a 4th title, but were extremely happy to achieve this fantastic record. Joni aged 18 and Rosie aged 13 put in a great performance and some of their photos appear below.
Horsham also had a terrific Championships when Joseph Beckett and Meghan Heraty winning Gold in the Intermediate Two Mixed Pair and Chris Cranfield and Ellie Stewart-Croker becoming British Champions in the Intermediate Level Three Competitions. They also won Gold in the Intermediate Level Two Women’s Pairs and the Level Three Women’s Group competition, taking 4 British Titles in 2 days!
I would like to feature a photo gallery of this event so if any Gymnasts, Coaches or Parents have photos which they are happy for me to use, please click here to e-mail these to me in jpg format.
