CARLY AND JASON TRIUMPH AT VISA CUP
In the women’s events, Carly Patterson, the World All Around Silver Medallist, was defending her Visa Cup title from 2003, and she was in amazing form as she produced an almost perfect routine on floor to score 9.837. On beam, Carly performed her double Arabian dismount to score 9.850 and also triumphed on bars and vault. Carly won gold on all four pieces and became the Women’s individual All Around Visa Cup Champion for the second year running scoring 38.949. Carly said after winning the title "I was really proud of my floor routine - I think that was the best floor I've ever done. I was nervous for this competition but I thought I'd prepared really well.”
Courtney McCool and Chellsie Memmel also performed spectacularly in an exciting women’s final with great support from very knowledgeable supporters and fans. Courtney stuck all four of her routines scoring 38.299 to win Silver, and the World double gold medallist Chellsie Memmel finished third with a score of 38.074.
The men’s pomell’s were dissapointing with four falls which made a big difference to the All Around scores. The defending Visa Cup Champion Blaine Wilson was unfortunately injured during the meet and tore his left bicep.
Jason Gatson had stood in third place after four rotations, and performed brilliantly on parrallel bars scoring 9.775. He nailed his High Bars routine scoring 9. 650, and won the Men’s Individual All Around championship, after Paul Hamm fell. On men’s vault, Marian Dragulescu won gold with a front handspring, double tuck and half twist, to score 9.875. Marian had struggled on Rings but performed consistently on the other pieces to take the Individual All Around Silver medal. Paul Hamm is the current World All Around Men’s Champion and scored a total of 56.450 to win bronze.
