1st - New World Champions are crowned as Mikola Cherbak and Sergei Popov from the Ukraine stormed to the World Title with an incredible performance to become the 2006 World Men’s Pairs Champions!

The Ukranian Pair are also the current European Champions, and won the Silver medals at the 2005 World Games. They also won the bronze medals in the 2004 World Championships, and their performance at this year’s World Championships was simply stunning. Mikola and Sergei got the highest score in Tempo with 28.686 and their Combined exercise received 28.907 amd a total of 86.344 closely followed by the Russian Pair. However their superb combined routine in the Finals received 29.257 which was the highest mark out of all the Finals, as they became new World Champions by a margin of almost 0.50.

Alexei Duschenko and Konstantin Pilipchuk from Russia won the Silver Medals in the 2006 World Men’s Pairs Championships with an excellent all around performance scoring 28.729 in Balance, 28.613 in Tempo and 28.662 and a total of 86.004 as they qualified for the World Finals in 2nd place.

Their combined routine scored even higher in the Finals as the Judges awarded 28.862, but even this could not match the 29 plus score of the Ukrainian pair and Alexei and Konstantin were forced to settle for the Silver Medals in one of the most exciting Finals at the World Championships.

Bronze Medals for Poland as Adrian Czyz and Pavel Walcewski as they jumped ftom 5th place in Qualifications to a Podium position in the World Finals!

Adrian and Pavel scored a total of 84.601 in Qualifications just behind both British Men’s Pairs. In Finals their combined routine score improved from 28.001 to 28.151 to edge out Mark & Chris from Great Britain and claim the bronze medals.

Mark Fyson & Christopher Jones from Great Britain had a superb competition achieving the highest  balance score of  28.761 in the Men’s Pairs, one tenth ahead of the new Ukranian World Champions.

.The British Pair from Deerness Valley were 3rd at the 2005 World Games and also bronze medalist’s in the 2005 Senior European Championships. They also scored 28.607 with their Combined exercise and a total of 85.808, qualifying in 3rd position for the 2006 World Finals with only 0.536 separating the top 3 Pairs going into the World Championships Final!

Mark and Chris produced a great routine in Finals to score 28.054 but were denied a Podium place by the smallest of margins as the Polish pair took bronze. Congratulations to both British Men’s Pairs who performed magnificently to claim the 4th and 5th positions at the World Championships!

Edward Upcott & Reece Durbridge also from Great Britain gave a fantastic performance to claim the 5th position in the World Championships. The Silver Medalist’s at the 2006 British Championships and Silver Medals at the 2005 Volkov Cup, in Russia demonstrated the great quality of the Spelthorne pair.

Edward and Reece opened with a fantastic Balance routine to win the the highest balance score in the Men’s Pairs as they received a huge 28.952 followed by 27.354 in Tempo and 28.370 in Combined for a total of 84.676 and qualify for the World Finals in 4th place. Their Final routine was awarded 27.957 to finish in a well deserved 5th place and complete a great Championships for the British Pairs. Well done you two!

In sixth position the gymnasts from the host country, Telmo Dias and Hugo Teixeira from Portugal. 

Their 5th place finish in the 2005 European Championships saw them compete against many of the gymnasts from Greece, and Telmo and Higo did not dissapoint the home crowd.

Qualifying in 6th place with their best score of 28.070 in their Balance exercise, the Portuguese gymnast’s continued their fine performance and score 27.580 and claim the final 6th place in the 2006 World Championships.

Portugal’s second set of Men’s Pairs were unlucky to miss a place in Finals as Tiago Figueiredo and Joao Maia scored 83.154 just missing the World Finals by 0.196! Their best score was 27.770 in the Balance routine with a 27.754 in their Combined routine.

The 2006 Puurs World Cup winners and 5th place in the 2005 Junior European Championships, the Portuguese pair can now add the 2006 World Championships to their impressive CV.

As we would expect. many of the competitors from the 2005 European Championships were competing in Coimbra for the coveted World Titles.

Ivaylo Dimitrov & Valeri Tzvetkov from Bulgaria were 4th in the 2005 Senior European Championships and their best score of 27.790 in Tempo and total of 82.534 was unfortunately not enough to claim a place in the Finals.

Jesus Jiminez & Alejandro Centeno from Spain finished in 10th place in Qualifications with the German pair of John Foerster and Phillipp Kepper in 9th place completing the excellent Men’s Pairs competition.
