A fantastic performance from Natasha Kelley and Bianca Flohr saw them capture Gold and Silver in the All Around at the 2005 International Junior Gymnastics Competition on September 18 and 19th in Yokohama, Japan. The junior women’s duo earned a total of three gold, five silver and two bronze medals between them, with Seung Tai Lee the junior silver medallist at the US Championships Seung winning Silver on Rings in the Men’s Finals. The USA brought home a total of 11 medals, with a great team performance which also included Kyson Bunthuwong, who won the men’s junior all-around title at US Nationals.

The 17th International Junior Gymnastics Competition in Yokohama, Japan featured top juniors from Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Korea, Romania, Russia, Spain, Ukraine and the United States with a fantastic line-up of top juniors.

In the women’s competition, the USA dominated the event, with Romania earning the remaining gold medals. In almost every event, it was neck and neck between Natasha and Bianca as the point difference between the two Americans was only one-tenth of a point, which was a repeat of their epic contest at US Nationals where the girls also finished one tenth apart! In Japan, Kelley edged past Flohr in the all-around scoring 37.250 to Flohr’s 37.150, with Romania’s Sandra Izbasa winning the bronze. In the individual event finals, the girls also won Gold and Silver with Flohr scoring 9.475 to Kelly’s 9.35 on uneven bars with China’s Hu Yuhong collecting bronze. On balance beam it was Natasha’s turn to take top honours with 9.55 to Flohr’s 9.45. Romania’s Sandra Izbasa struck back to win double Gold on both vault with 9.300 and the floor exercise with 9.550 with Kelley finishing second and Flohr third in both pieces. Chloe Sims from Australia finished in 5th position scoring 35.850, which included a 9.225 on Beam to take Bronze position.

The Men’s All Around was won by Mingshen Liang from China scoring 53.400 which included fantastic performances on Parallel Bars earning a 9.500, and a 9.35 on Vault, with Japan’s Tatsuki Nakashima winning Silver with a score of 52.925, and Ukraine’s Andrei Isayev collecting bronze with 52.550.

In the Men’s Individual Apparatus Finals, Ukraine and the host’s Japan dominated the medals with Andrei Isayev collecting Gold on Pommels and Rings plus the Silver medal on Floor. All Around Champion Liang Mengshen won the day’s highest score with a fantastic 9.600 on Parallel Bars, but Japan’s Tatsuki Nakashima won Gold on Floor and Silver medals on vault, parallel bars and high bar. Team mate Kyouichi Watanabe delighted the audience with a terrific high bars performance including Kolman, layout double - double dismount to take the Gold medals with Nakashima in second place for a Japanese 1-2 in front of their home fans.
